WHAT WILL I LEARN?

The curriculum

BPCA™ is an online community, self-paced course, and co-working space rolled into one helping you through the rigours of the bar course. The course adopts a comprehensive, structured and tailored approach to guide aspiring barristers through each module covered on the course. The curriculum is guided by the Bar Standards Board Curriculum and Assessment Strategy

Avoid common mistakes and learn highly effective strategies from recently qualified practising barristers who understand the challenges faced by current aspiring barristers.

You will be introduced to your instructors, outline the key objectives and receive an overview of the curriculum and materials to follow.

You will receive an overview of the knowledge and understanding of the key concepts and principles of public and private law which feed into the Remedies, Opinion Writing & Drafting modules.

Legal and equitable remedies in contract and tort law are revisited to establish the foundations required for the Opinion Writing & Drafting modules.

You will develop your ability to write persuasive and well-reasoned legal opinions, a crucial skill for any aspiring lawyer, judge, or legal professional. You will be guided through a formulaic approach to preparing contractual and tortious legal opinion

You will embark on an essential journey to mastering the art and science of legal writing. This module is designed to equip you with the critical skills needed to draft clear, precise, and effective statements of case including:

1. Particulars of claim;

2. Defences; and

3. Defence and Counterclaims.

This covers professional ethics for barristers practising at the Bar of England and Wales. Students are introduced to the Bar Standards Board Handbook which establishes the ethical core duties, rules and guidance for barristers. Once familiar with the regulations, students are exposed to a range of ethical dilemmas barristers face in the role and are shown how to respond to challenging situations using a structured approach.

Enhance your advocacy skills and client interaction through our Conferencing module, a crucial component for aspiring barristers at the Bar of England and Wales. This module is designed to equip you with the essential skills needed to conduct effective and professional client conferences. Learn how to create a conference plan, draft interview questions and conduct a conference under strict time conditions.

This course offers an in-depth exploration of the civil litigation process, equipping you with the knowledge and skills necessary to navigate the complexities of civil law. You will gain an overview of each topic covered in the Bar Standard Board syllabus to prepare you for the rigours of the civil litigation module on the bar course.

The first of our three advocacy modules. Submission advocacy is taught using legal exercises arising during the course of civil litigation. We begin by teaching you the fundamentals of written and oral advocacy. You are then shown how to draft a skeleton argument and use it to deliver your oral submissions while performing as an advocate in court.

Immerse yourself in the comprehensive study of Criminal Litigation Evidence and Sentencing with our specialised module, tailored for aspiring barristers at the Bar of England and Wales. This course offers an in-depth exploration of the criminal litigation process, equipping you with the knowledge and skills necessary to navigate the complexities of criminal law. The third of our three advocacy modules. Cross-examination (XX) falls under witness handling and is taught using legal exercises arising during the course of criminal litigation. You will learn how to prepare and conduct an effective XX while adhering to the rules of evidence.
